Catherine Lim grew up in Malaysia and lives in Singapore. She holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics and has published articles on sociolinguistics as well as on the problematics of writing fiction in Singaporean English. She also contributes social and political commentaries to local and foreign newspapers and magazines. Before she became a full-time writer, she was a lecturer at the Regional Language Centre (RELC) in Singapore.
The author of eleven short-story collections and four novels, she is best known for Little Ironies: Short Stories of Singapore and Or Else, The Lightning God and Other Stories, both collections having been used as literature texts in the G.C.S.E. Level Examinations conducted by Cambridge University in England. Her works have been published in the US, France,
