American writer Lorrie Moore has achieved recognition as one of the most powerful storytellers of her generation. She has been the recipient of several awards and fellowships and her stories regularly appear in anthologies. Moore regards herself primarily as a story writer but has also written two celebrated novels. Praise for Moore centres on her balance of humor and pathos. Dominant concerns of her fiction include: the lives of postmodern women; the absurdity and banality of the everyday; and the limitations and possibilities of language.

Born Marie Lorena Moore in 1957, Moore grew up in Glen Falls, New York. Her parents nicknamed her “Lorrie”. The second of four children, she recalls growing up in a “house full of books and music”. Her father was an insurance executive and her
