Denise Saive

Denise Saive holds a MA in Portuguese Studies from the University of Utrecht (2006) and a PhD in Lusophone Literatures from the University of Wisconsin- Madison (2013) with a thesis entitled “Challenging masculinities: The role of gender in Os Lusíadas by Luís Vaz de Camões”. She lectured Lusophone Cultural Studies at the University of Antwerp until September 2016 and is currently working as an Affiliated Researcher.
Her research interests include Gender and Queer Studies, Postcolonial Studies, Travel Narratives and Renaissance Studies with a focus on Dutch and Lusophone Literatures. More specifically, her work examines how “others” manage to subvert the dominant discourse present in mainly Early Modern Lusophone texts.
