Stephen Crane, who found literary fame with the publication of his novel The Red Badge of Courage and is often read for his short story “The Open Boat” and novella Maggie, also published two volumes of poetry in his short life. His first collection, The Black Riders and Other Lines, came out in May 1895, some five months before the publication of Red Badge of Courage. Crane was only 24 when these works were published, just five years before his untimely death.
