At a meeting of the Imperial Diet of Ratisbon, the princes and electors, bolstered by French support, force Ferdinand II to promise to dismiss his military commander Wallenstein. The Emperor is prepared to make this significant concession in the circumstances, because he is anxious to secure his son's election as King of the Romans.
