In 1821 Quaker Benjamin Lundy (4th January, 1789 - 22nd August, 1839) founded the antislavery paper The Genius of Universal Emancipation. It ran from 1821 till 1839. Lundy's co-editor William Lloyd Garrison (13th December, 1805 - 24th May, 1879) went on to establish the radical abolitionist paper The Liberator in 1831.
